U.S. House Aims to Help Veterans

AUS House Aims to Help Veterans - Veterans Affordable Housing Program 407 to 12 vote in the Republican-dominated House of Representatives approved legislation to support veterans. The measure aims to provide additional funding to help combat the vast number of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans claiming disabilities and injuries as the United States’ involvement in the middle-eastern theater draws down. Republics worked in a bipartisan fashion with Democrats to help protect veteran programs as many government programs are facing budget cuts.

As nearly 50 percent of the 1.6 million new veterans seek disability and injury assistance, the new measure will provide 148 billion dollars to help cover pension and disability payments. Currently, the AA suffers from immense backlogs, which the Associated Press reports currently topping 1 million applicants. The Veterans Administration medical services division will see a 5 percent increase in funding for 2014.

The Iraq and Afghanistan wars are seeing a sharp increase in disability claims by veterans. The Gulf War conflict in the 1990s faced only a 21 percent claim rate, and the Vietnam War/World War II were even lower. Analysts suggest that the increase in claims could be related to the current economic climate and advances in medical sciences, which increase survival rates and can now better diagnose and recognize post-traumatic stress disorder and head injuries. Disability payments for veterans can range between $127 a month to $2,769 a month.

While the government seeks to help veterans, The Veterans Affordable Housing Program is ready to help now, and we want to help you have a home. While many veterans are facing delays with the Department of Veterans Affairs and may feel abandoned, they are not alone. The Veterans Affordable Housing Program was created to help vets in times of need, and is dedicated to helping low and moderate income, disabled, or transitioning veterans and their families find affordable housing in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Washington. We can help you by providing rent relief, down payment assistance, reduced-cost housing, subsidies, and more. Please contact us if you, or somebody you know, is a veteran and is in need of housing assistance.
